There's a never ending queue of people and thankfully we managed to get a table at a corner with a good view of people rushing around in the crazy sun.

Scones, open-faced house sandwiches, pastries and coffee. Perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. So English feeling =)

I was so eager to share my 50% La Senza voucher since it's my birthday month. Really happy that I have La Senza fanatic friends =) We kept the sale assistants as busy as they can be, checking stocks for us, calling up other branches to check size, transferring etc.. I guess not much explanation is required looking at the amount we bought. There are still 5 missing pieces, waiting to be transferred from other branches.

And even after 50% off, the bill still came up to a staggering half a thousand. Seriously?

This is the first time I've actually seen such a long shopping bill, grocery shopping aside.

WL and I braved the teenage crowd for a flea exploration at Mount Sophia, Old School. The whole place was packed, hot and stuffy but we managed to bag some steals =) My buys include 1 vest and 1 cropped blazer for $5 each, 1 asymmetric jumpsuit for $15 and 1 Zara dress for $20. Almost spent the same amount on a Topshop dress. Luckily I held back. 4 VS 1 is kinda a no brainer.

2 years later, I'm back. Dinner at gorgeous il-Lido, facing South China Sea.

She is the eldest grandchild from my dad's side, she is the first to get married, she is the only child. It's kinda a big deal. The groom is a Malaysian whose family migrated to Australia.I probably won't have a chance to know him better but he seems like a really cheerful and bubbly guy.

The thing that I feared happened. Everyone has been praying and hoping that my uncle would at least tide through till after my cousin's wedding next week but he left us today. After struggling for half a year, he's off to a better place now. Not only have we to deal with the grief, the family has to be splitted, 1 group will be helping out with the funeral and the other to attend the wedding. Dowager's instruction is that all should attend the wedding except 1 family. My parents stepped up but since I'm supposed to help out in the wedding, only my parents won't be attending the wedding. How untimely of things but guess that's why life's a bitch... This is gonna be tough.

We went to China for dinner. Alright, it's some Chinese restaurant but everything about it has the 'Imperial' element. And of coz it's hidden at some corner in National Museum.

My mum has been dying to try this restaurant for ages. She has finally created an reason (my sis's 'A' Levels results) to splurge. Now she has a headache coz she doesn't know what to study. Definitely NOT BIE.

Totally loved the fried sharks fin, USA wagyu beef and award winning roast chicken. The skin is so crispy and thin, and its flesh is smooth like baby butt and literally melts in your mouth.

My cousin's daughter is so adorable. She has her signature 'pig face'. This 15 month baby has as many shoes as me!!!

I'm embracing my height (or lack of height) with these really cute ballet pumps from Pedder Warehouse Sale. They are really comfy =) And there was this pair of patent red Marc Jacobs peeptoes which were also really comfy but it was only 2". Lael's philosophy is either flats for comfort or sky high heels so even though it may be my only chance of owning a pair of Marc Jacobs (70% off), I had to give it a miss. Squeezed in an additional 20% (5 pairs or more) on top of the discount as we managed to ride off a group of ladies. It's wonderful how shopping can unite women =) My bathroom is gonna be my secret shoes hiding place.

Also, we've probably covered every single designer store in town today. Someone's preparing her wistlist for her Paris flight. I'm so JEALOUS!!!

There's something special about sale shopping. It's unlike shopping at a normal boutique where you spot something that you like, try it on in different sizes, compare with different colors,go home and sleep over it and decide. Sales shopping is something you can't control. It's either there or not. Sometimes, there's only 1 piece, 1 size, something different from those you already have, the right cutting, and the perfect price. You miss it and there's no second chance whereby you hope that it will still be there the next day. There's this thrill of finding the best deals during a sale, something that is soooo past season that it's actually making a comeback.

I'm totally pleased with myself. I don't think anyone can find a pair of decent denim for $33 and I managed to snatch 1 pair of acid wash skinny from 7 for all Mankind!!! How awesome is 90% discount man....

I went for my first food tasting session for my cousin's wedding at Pan Pacific Hotel next month. It's juz a nice feeling to be treated like VIPs, fill up food critic forms, have the chef talk you through each dish, and walk off without paying (of coz it's no way close to the amount they are paying for the banquet). It's really expensive to hold a wedding. It's gonna cost them easily 60k for juz the reception and the banquet.

Since it's our mid-sem break, I guess it's only fair that we attempt to get away from all the school work and FYP duties, at least for 1 afternoon. So a group of us went to Hilton Hotel for their Cheese Cake and Chocolate buffet. Honestly speaking, I won't even think of returning as the selection and quality of it isn't fantastic. I kinda miss Equinox Hightea now =)

Here are some (actually I think is ALL) the cakes available. The chocolate ones were pretty yummy but the cheesecakes, errrr, can be better.

The afternoon juz breezed pass when everyone is enjoying themselves. I can't really remembered what our conversations were about, but I do remember us making quite a bit of noise. oops...

Along the way, desert buffet became a tea session. Look at how many pots of tea we ordered! Our tables were filled with tea pots and cups.

We all had fun! I'm so looking forward to our Crabby dinner at Chiew's and to our next outtng of BOWLING!!!!!!

Miss Sixty Bazaar. Up to 80% off. Most denim selling for $60. Didn't add anything to my Miss Sixty collection.
Fashionista Sale. Selling weird American brands. They have some Armani Exchange Tees selling for $10! I grabbed 1.
Branded shoes sale for guys, mainly Renoma and Hush Puppies. Man's leather shoes were going for $29-$49. A lot of huge sizes (43, 44) left. I bought 3 pairs of Renoma leather working shoes for Nithe for $29 each (UP. ~ $150). What a steal.

Also, there's a flea market at St James Power Station tmr. Still thinking whether I should go. Anyone interested?

It has been forever since I last baked and Vday seems to be a good time to try out some new recipes. Also partly because I'm against spending unnecessarily for Vday. Isn't it juz like any other day? We were like a production line with assigned task, running up and down checking on the oven, making sure that the chocolate in the freezer doesn't freeze completely, and of coz meeting dt's mum's high expectations. hahaha......

It might not taste perfect but it's the thought of it that counts isn't it. And we had great fun! It felt like those good old JC days again =) Vday is all about spending time with people we care and love. This way, I get to spend time with 2 of my closest pals and also make something for our love ones.

For those who didn't bother to turn up for NUS Career Fair 2009, don't bother. Talking to company representatives will only make you feel sad, unwanted and useless. I used to be proud of being in Bioengineering but when employers hear BIO-engineering, they will give the face and you know it's over. So much so that when asked which course of study I'm in, I'll simply say Engineering but I'll still get the face because apparently, the sterotype of 'Engineering being an all guys field' is still so strong. Another thing, I don't like it when they say that 'presentable girls have an advantage over guys because sex appeals.....' Please, if we're trying to sell looks, we would be aiming at the media industry. Depressing isn't it.

DIY Project - Bleached Jeans

I'm totally a denim girl and I had to try this bleached jeans look. I've been sitting on it for too long. The thought of destroying a perfectly fine pair of jeans makes it harder to get started.

If Balmain said so, who are we to deny it? My eyes are immediately drawn to it.

First of, I managed to dig up a pair of Topshop skinnies which haven't been worn for the past 1.5 years or so. Instead of it going to waste rotting in my wardrobe, why not give it a shot right...

The bleach I used isn't as strong as I wanted it to be and thus I had to bleach and re-bleach and re-bleach and re-bleach until the contrast was obvious enough. I think I've used enough bleach to last me a life time. Now the reek of bleach is embedded into my olfactory system.

The most random thing happened. I was slacking at Olive Cove, waiting for my lecture to start and these 2 overseas graduate guys, seated from adjacent table approached me for a favor. They wanted to film me in some virtual video.

My task: Girl A is browsing through some magazines when her phone suddenly rings. She picks up and speaks to her lover. Girl A then holds up this 'virtual face' and kisses it.

I couldn't stop laughing coz the idea of the whole thing felt ridiculous to me. If they were not discussing so engrossly beforehand, I would suspect it's some stupid prank.

High waisted jeans from Topshop. Despite it being on sale, I was quite reluctant to buy it because I have too many jeans. I backed out when it was my turn to pay and my mum was like 'Oh high waisted, I can wear'. She tried it and managed to fit into it and ta dah. I'm pretty sure she won't wear it but it's my way of making her pay for it since I'm too stingy.
Evening gown from BCBG for my cousin's wedding in March. I had no intention of getting a new gown since I can re-wear my old BCBG. I went to 'try for fun' and it turned out really nice so yay! new dress. All it took was 20 mins.

Oh and I juz collected all my F21 stuffs from my cousin-in-law. I wasn't expecting him to get any for me but surprisingly, they had ALL my items!

A random stranger approached me to make up her 3rd pair and so mine was $64! My feet are super happy now. Have been eyeing on this pair of studded Steve Madden for awhile and even though of asking my cousin-in-law to find it for me in States but I found it in SG and for the first time, SG (after discount) is actually cheaper than States (after discount). I can't believe it too but it's true. Happy happy happy =) 4.25 inches!!!

I had so many pairs of shoes in front of me while trying and it feels like how people try on tons of shoes in shows. I'm still on the fence about these 2. I have 2 pairs of oxfords but this peep toe leather one looks really creamy and comfortable. Shall sleep over it and see how it goes.

We had Manda's house warming/Ali's 23rd/pre CNY steamboat. At lease this steamboat wasn't a 'ball' feast unlike some other steamboat gatherings. Plus I don't think it's possible to not have sufficient food for steamboat. We always end up forcing food down our throats. hahaha. It was really fun hanging out with them.

Instead of getting a 'boring' cake, we bought 2 tubs of ice cream from Daily Scoop. OMG they sell the BEST durian ice cream ever.

First week back at school has been boring. I still can't decide which technical elective to drop thus explaining my 4 day week. Also, FYP's a bitch. Even though I'm totally unprepared, I can't wait for Monday's presentation to be over. I guess getting Huang Zhiwei (aka Mr Crysanthemun) over BIE Head Collin Shepherd is the lesser evil since I'm supposed to be used to Mr Crysanthemun's firing questions from Biophotonics. Oh well, I don't think there's much difference even if I were to present at the end of the week so might as well get it over with and I can start my early CNY celebrations.
Haven't been sewing anything of late as I've ran out of material. Really need to stock up or maybe continue on my half completed (abandon) projects.

BIE Goth Night

Vinodh organized this BIE Goth Night and it was the BEST House Party I've ever attended. OMG! So much effort is put into the food, the deco, the music, lighting, EVERYTHING. It was simply AWESOME! And his parents are super funky too. They too dressed up for the party =)

This was what I had managed to assemble out of my wardrobe. I didn't know normal daily pieces can turn out to be this thrashy. And since I'll probably dress up like that ever again, following are tons of photos to try capture the essence.

These two are the champs. They kept opening bottles even whether everybody left. If I'm not wrong, they opened 3 new bottles and finished bottles that were half drunk. Eric was really funny. He kept repeating himself, "LQ, come help the guys take photo." 5 minutes later, "LQ, come help the guys take photo." That went on again and again and again, which explains the numerous similar shots. And since I was the only sober one (designated driver), he kept asking me whether it's funny seeing everyone around me high/drunk (x 100000000). Eric is definitely a happy drunk =)

And the guys tried living their fantasy of surrounding themselves with 'hot babes'.

At the end of the party, we helped Vinodh clear 13 bottles. Big thanks to him and his family for opening their place and providing everything. It was a hell of a party. What a great way to start a fresh new year. 2009 is gonna be AWESOME with these people around =)

2008 ending with a bang. Firstly was my family's tradition New Year's Eve Japanese dinner at a little cosy authentic Japanese restaurant. We have been patrionizing them since I can remember. Watch night service was next followed with PRAWNING and countdown at Farmart with the YA pals. A group of 15 people waited patiently for 4hrs and caught miserable 16 prawns. People surrounding us had nets FILLED with prawns while ours seem to be forever empty. Lucky for the keg of Heineken Joshua brought along and Skitters Jemi's dog. It was great fun though.

Blessed Christmas! I was downgraded from alto to tenor for this Christmas Project to sing alongside Nithe otherwise poor he would be singing solo (he's totally capable of). As always, choir is the best prepared and I don't understand why 'Bay' constantly feels that we will screw up. Where's his faith?

Choir's attire was red/green that's why everyone looked so color coordinated.

Even though it's green/red, it feels like they kinda mixed up Christmas with CNY.

Christmas is all about love, fellowship with friends and feasting. Oh not to forget presents. I don't receive them anymore =( I miss being a kid. Even a box of sweets or chocolate is suffice. It's the idea of unwrapping a mysterious gift that's fun. Juz looking at the food makes me hungry again.

What's Christmas without the big bird. Even the drumstick is huge. Of coz it's no where close to the one Mr Bean managed to stick his head into but 20 adults were not able to finish it.
And of coz the children need to be entertained. Nothing beats sitting high up and playing catching without the need to run.

Second party of the night at Jiale's place. It's all the familiar HCJC guys with their partners. One thing never change, they are hell noisy. I was surprise no security guard came up as we were still screaming and laughing at 1+ am. Totally looking forward to Saturday for second round of feastings.

DIY Project - Fringe Vest

Of late, I've been really obsessed with fringe. When I saw this vest from Sass and Bide, my jaw dropped.

Obstacles faced

Finding the right materials, from the cloth used for the vest, to the beads and sequins for the details. I've combed Spotlight twice, People's Park twice and Arab Street once juz to search for the correct beads.
Hand sewing all the beads and sequins onto the vest. Sewing machine is USELESS.
Hemming. I seriously HATE hemming and again it has to be hand sewn for various reasons.

I've been to this restaurant twice in 3 days and I'm pretty sure I'll be visiting them pretty frequently. Nithe went there last week and was raving about how great their pasta and pizza were and their prices being very reasonable too ($15 each). So we decided we shall go there to celebrate the end of my exams on Saturday. We reached at 830pm and had to wait for over 45 mins for our table. That's how good their business was (PS. we were eating 2 tables away from Fiona Xie). We were not disappointed.

2 days later, we came back, reservations made and stomachs empty =) The boss goes around and takes your order personally. Throughout dinner, he and his other 2 partners will walk around and talk to their customers. They are really friendly people. His wife and sister rule the kitchen.

Some of our food including crab and lobster ravioli in tomato sauce, mushroom ravioli in cream truffle sauce, gorgonzola pizza and the guys had brazilian churrascaria.

After dinner, I casually asked one of the boss what's the drink that many people are drinking (it's this white liquid in a champaign glass). He explained that it's their lemon sorbet and the next thing he said, 'I'll give you some, complimentary.' He brought over 8 glasses, one for each of us, FREE! See, ask and you shall receive. Their lemon sorbet is really refreshing. Nithe kept stealing mine.

DIY Project - Sass and Bide Beaded Top

Exams were juz over on Friday and I'm gonna lock myself up until I've tried all my DIY ideas. For the past few days, I think I've worked harder than studying for exams =) Anyway, I LOVE this Sass and Bide beaded top. There's juz something about it that drew my eyes to it at first sight.

So I've spent many many many hours, beading thousands and thousands of beads by hand. It's really damn tedious. I think I've beaded over 10m of it and my eyes are pretty dead now. But I guess it's worth US$140.

christmas part I - Alleluia Sing Noel

Even though Christmas is still 3.5 weeks away, I'm kicking start it with Hallelujah Oratorio Society's Annual Christmas Concert - Alleluia Sing Noel. A friend was singing and Nithe's brother was in the mini orchestra so we had VIP box tickets =)

The singers comprise members from Singapore Lyric Opera, vocal majors from Singapore Bible College and non-professionals with a heart for choral music. I developed a better appreciation for choral music after our choir did a short presentation of Handel's Messiah for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday earlier this year. The pieces were tough and we practiced so hard that every time I hear the tune, the lyrics comes automatically.
Something that turned me off during the performance was the audience.

They applauded after each piece. Mistake. They should only applaud after each set. If unsure, don't clap unless EVERYONE around you claps. Still they might be wrong.
They started clapping before the song ended. The basses were sustaining their decrescendo and before they stopped, some smart few started clapping and the rest followed.
People who have heard coral music before will surely hear of Handel's famous Messiah. People started clapping a full 3 bars before the piece ended. I mean it didn't even sound like the piece was over and clapping? Obviously they don't know what they are watching. I was like 'OMG! This is so embarassing.' Luckily some knew they had to stand for this piece and most followed even though they were clueless.

Nithe said the audience were 'uneducated'. I guess it's not entirely their fault but it doesn't really reflect well on our 'artsy culture'.

I love my maxi dress. It's almost floor sweeping and walking in it with heels can be a real challenge. I stepped on my dress while walking up stairs and nearly fell. Nithe was like 'later you ripped off your dress then you know'.

Since my sis's A Levels was over, she has been so free and in a shopping deficit. I grabbed her to the Charles and Keith Warehouse Sales to see whether we can find any good buys. There were shoes ranging from $9-35 and bags from $15-35. Not lacking of shoes (my sis juz bought 2 pairs of pumps the day before), we settled for 2 pairs of $9 shoes and a $15 basket bag. People around us bought tons of shoes and bags, which made us feel pathetic. We quickly got our asses out and rushed for our next appointment.

My mum was kinda free at work so she decided to sneak out for an impromptu lunch at Au Petit Salut. A month ago, I was here and I said I'll be back =)

My sis and I were complaining about how this year will be the first year end in at least 5 years which we are not traveling. Now that my sis is out of JC, we can travel during off-peak seasons. We were reminiscing significant places we once visited like safaris in South Africa, our first snow encounter in Turkey, how we were robbed at San Francisco etc. Those were like eons ago and I can vaguely remember. Almost at the end of lunch, I realized that today's thanks giving. What a wonderful way to spend it on a random Thursday, in the midst of exams.

I thought that the skirt looked really great and I can't seem to find anything similar so I've decided to try DIY style. It's not that hard actually. And yes I made this skirt based on those 3 photos. I juz wished it has more flare but considering my first attempt at a pleated skirt, I can't be more thrilled.

I can't believe I didn't hear about this sale until this evening when it started on THURSDAY =( Anyway, I rushed down and luckily there were not many people. 25 was their smallest size and sadly, I can't fit into it. I've been eyeing on True Religion for awhile and I really wanted to get one.

I racked their kid's denim and the sale guy was doubtful and tried directing me to the right section. I tried their largest kid's size available, size 10, and yay! Children clothes is the way to save money. True Religion Low Rise Bobby. I love their bold stitching =)

To mark the completion of 1 out of 3 papers, 2 of which are 2 weeks later, Chiew and I went for grocery shopping at Jalan Merah Saga and lunch at Holland V. We came across this pet shop which allows its cats to roam around freely outside the premise of the shop, with faith that they will come back to its 'home'. In particular, there was this cat which followed us few shops down, wanting to play with us. It first came to our feet, dropped down on her back, and started flipping and rolling around. When we entered the shop, she was like waiting for us outside and when we came out, she continued. Such an adorable fur ball =) Fat and furry juz as I like it.

We then decided to check out the other animals in the pet store and I shocked by this creature. It's seriously the most scary animal I've ever seen in real life. The sphynx cat is hairless, and looks like a mutated alien. It's paws are like webbed and when it balls up, it looks even more like a deformed creature, something like those creatures in Lord of the Rings. I had to block it away from my peripheral sight before walking past because it's so haunting. It's totally different from those sphynx cat online. Seeing it physically gives the creeps. Now I've to try block it out from my memory.

Oh did I mention that I've only 2 papers left while some lucky few are HALF done =) So much for being in 4th year.

Can brand blind one's taste?

Sometimes I wonder whether I'm in love with the design of the clothing or the brand. There are definitely times when I'm drawn purely by the brand. I think some people (including myself sometimes) may have the mentality that if it's from a particular established designer, it has to be fabulous. I guess it shouldn't matter that much as people see the beauty of the clothes, not its brand. They are not gonna ask you the brand before deciding whether it looks good or not.

As Joe Zee, Creative Director of Elle Magazine said, just because you have the right label on, doesn't mean it's always gonna be the right choice.

baby natasha turns 1

My baby niece celebrated her very first birthday today. It was this humongous party, with tons of other babies, friends, relatives and BALLOONS. The whole house was decorated beautifully and it was juz great. Looking back at my baby photos, I don't think I had a party. Juz my parents, I and a cake =)

This is the first time I'm visiting their place and I'm WOW. Isn't their place gorgeous? A little background. My cousin's husband is a SQ pilot, so is her father-in-law. When they got married, her parent-in-laws bought another smaller condo for themselves and sort of gave them their current 2000 sq-feet Marine Parade apartment and maid. My cousin doesn't work and takes care of her baby full-time. At this point of time, I think everyone wants to either be a pilot or marry a pilot.

2 adults + 1 baby + 1 maid stay in a 4 bedroom apartment.

A study room which won't be used for at least the next 5 years;
A music room with a complete electronic drum set, an organ, 3 guitars, a synthesizer and microphones;
A guest room;
Master bedroom.

Look at the number of guests and the mountain of presents. Isn't it amazing how a small kid is able to bring so many people together?

Baby Natasha's cake was from choc.a.blog. It's super delicious =) So happen that the father's birthday is a week later so they celebrated it together. Dad's cake is yummy lychee martini. 2 cakes in 1 party. How much better can it get?

My mum, being the GRAND AUNTIE, was trying to hog baby Natasha for as long as possible.

It's really hard to get baby Natasha to stay still and take a photo. She's constantly moving and I so feel like tying her still. Currently, I'm soooo not a baby person. I think I'll juz struggle he/her.

Each kid can take home a balloon. I'm a bigger baby and so I'm entitled to slightly more. Wonder how many balloons do I need to lift me?
